Jewelry Workshop July 27, 2008 and some house keeping

Below is text form several emails from Julie Weller to an extensive email list. The idea is to have people attend the following (and perhaps future) jewelry making workshops for both beginners and experienced beaders, those pieces will then be donated towards a sale of the jewelry that will take place at the Rochester Public Market.

We need to centralize communications here on this blog as there are too many e-mails flying around and people who are out of town are getting too many e-mails that involve local events jamming up their in-boxes.

Please, subscribe to this blog in your feed reader. Don't have a feed reader? Learn about it and get a feed reader here. Here is some more great information (with links to a tutorial) about RSS and Feed Readers if you are feeling a little lost right now. Also, you may contact us, Karin or Julie, through the "comments" link at the end of each post. I will also be setting up a "contact us" button in the next couple days. Stay connected, Kelli needs you!

Hello all,

I am writing about a jewelry workshop I would like to coordinate for next Sunday, JULY 27 1 PM. However, we need a few people who can teach to come, as Marilynn and her staff will be teaching classes at that time. We have capacity at this time for 16 people total. So, please RSVP to my e-mail address and tell me if you are a first-timer or can help us beginners out.

Hi, I should have mentioned that Marilynn feels confident that some from the
first group would be competent to teach. Also, Marilynn and Barbara would be
able to teach a class from 1-3 on Friday, the 25th to get beginners ready to
"teach" on the 27th.  (I can't attend this) So, I need help getting
teachers.

We have enough teachers. 1 attending the workshop on Friday, so others can join that if they like. Let me know so I can pass it on to Marilynn. Here are the directions from Marilynn to Studio 34. Please continue to RSVP. We have about 4 so far. Room for 12 more.

Take care - Julie

Several others sent good wishes, but were on vacation. 

I. Introductions

II. Julia helped us make name signs.

III. Fundraising Plans

A. Decided upon selling jewelry at Rochester Public Market. Mary Gregg to call for availability for Saturday 8/16.

1.Joanne Katz to coordinate 1st  jewelry making session at Studio 34 (offered
generously by Marilynn, owner of Studio 34)

B. Garage Sale coming soon. DO NOT donate items to anyone else. Just put them aside for now. We have a few locations in mind. Ask friends to give you their stuff too.

AND, If you are not local, have a garage sale in Kelli’s honor. It would be cheaper than mailing us things.

C. Roof. Anyone know a contractor that will work for cost? Or give Kelli a good break for the new roof she needs? Or maybe have a link with Habitat for Humanity? Anyone? We need a lead??!

So….. For NOW:

1. Look for upcoming DATES TO GO AND MAKE JEWELRY. As Julia pointed out to me when I said “I don’t really know how.”; “It’s just putting beads on a string.”  And Marilynn at Studio 34 stated, “Experience not necessary”.

2. Save your OLD TREASURES and look for DATES for when and where you can bring them,
and volunteer your TIME at the GARAGE SALES

3. Look for TIME SLOT to sign up at the Public Market. We are shooting for August 16th

4. If you have any networks, leads about contractors, for Kelli’s roof, let us know.

Compiled by our fearless coordinator Julie Weller!

About Caring for Kelli

This site represents a grassroots effort to care for our friend Kelli Schwert, a survivor and continuing battler of stage IV breast cancer. We are here to care for Kelli in heart, mind, spirit, and in her day-to-day challenges. Kelli is so many things, an artist, a friend to countless, a devoted mother to her fur babies (kitties). In addition, Kelli is a dynamic occupational therapist.  Throughout the entirety of her career and even to this day, she has fought to continue to give her amazing devotion and creative energy to children with special needs. NOW it is time to support Kelli and her  "special needs”.  This disease is stealing the time she can devote to the career she loves.  This has begun to strain her financial independence. Medical co-pays, vet bills and daily needs are not thoughts on which we want Kelli to meditate.  Peace, Hope, the ability to care for her beloved fur babies, and the basic creature comforts that we all value are the goals in sight.

This site is intended as a portal of information, contact for events, and efforts to support Kelli both financially and emotionally through this fight of her life. Please visit often as fundraising efforts, card campaigns, and needs for assistance will be announced here. Feel free to contact us through this site with ideas, questions and notes of encouragement.
